Little Miami WWTP Electrical, Primary, and Secondary (EPS) Improvements

Project Name, Location and Delivery Method

  • Name: Little Miami Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Electrical, Primary, and Secondary (EPS) Improvements
  • Location: Little Miami WWTP in Cincinnati's East End/Columbia Tusculum neighborhood
  • Project Delivery Method: Design Bid Build

Project Overview

This project will increase secondary treatment capacity at the Little Miami WWTP from 55 million gallons per day (MGD) to 100 MGD. The project will also upgrade primary treatment equipment and modernize electrical equipment to improve reliability and resiliency, including new emergency generators to suport the plant during loss of utility.

  • Secondary treatment upgrades will be installed into the existing footprint using a modified process called step-feed activated sludge process to increase biological performance and stability.
  • Replacement and addition of sludge/scum collectors in the Primary Treatment process area will reduce plant energy usage and enhance the new anaerobic digester performance.
  • Replacement of existing electrical equipment will provide higher reliability from microprocessor-based fault protection and increase safety to equipment and personnel.
  • Replacement of the emergency generators provides higher reliability, as well as improved fuel efficiency and emissions controls, and will support the new anaerobic digestion facility.
