Starting Thursday, November 14, Pendleton Street in downtown Cincinnati will close to northbound traffic between Reading Road and E. 12th Street for up to six weeks. A posted detour will be in place. Pendleton will remain open to southbound traffic.
MSD is constructing new sewers and rehabilitating existing sewers in the area. The work is expected to be completed by summer 2025, pending weather and field conditions.

The Hamilton County Commissioners will conduct public hearings to consider MSD's proposed 2025 Operating Budget, proposed 2025 Capital Budget and 2025 – 2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP), and revised sewer rates:
The hearings will be held in person in Room 603 in the Office of the Board of County Commissioners of Hamilton County, Ohio, Todd B. Portune Center for County Government, 138 E. Court Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202. The public can also attend virtually.

Traffic impacts will occur along Reading Road in the Pendleton area of downtown Cincinnati starting the week of October 21 as MSD constructs new sewers and rehabilitates existing sewers in the area.
The work is expected to be completed by summer 2025, pending weather and field conditions.

MSD will begin demolishing the Daly Road Treatment Facility, an obsolete facility located in the 8400 block of Daly Road in Finneytown (Springfield Township), on or around October 9. The project is scheduled to be completed by spring 2025, pending weather and field conditions.
Traffic impacts on Daly Road should be minimal with no anticipated road closures. Delays could be possible when equipment is entering or leaving the entrance drive off Daly Road.

MSD will begin constructing a local sanitary sewer and lateral sewers along Taylor Road and Springoak Drive in Green Township in early September. Taylor Road will be closed to thru traffic between Rybolt and Bridgetown roads starting around September 9 for approximately 60 days.

The Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) will conduct a public hearing on the proposed Kenwood Hills Local Sewer (S.S. No. 5933, Project ID 10370025) on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Madeira City Hall, 7141 Miami Avenue (45243).
This proposed sewer assessment will bring public sewer service to 160 properties and is located along Coachlite Way, Margo Lane, Oakvista Drive, Mapleridge Drive, Kenwood Hills Drive, Maplespur Lane, and Vistaridge Lane and traverse 5795 Carmargo Road in the City of Madeira.

Hamilton County has submitted its draft Phase 2B plan to reduce sewer overflows into local streams and rivers. This proposed 10-year plan is the next phase of MSD's wet weather program.
The U.S. EPA and other regulators must approve the plan.

A portion of the Ohio River Trail in the East End will temporarily close in early April 2024 for about a month while the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSD) installs permanent bypass piping underneath the path.
The trail closure is between Wilmer Avenue and Carrel Street. Visitors to the trail will be detoured via Airport Road; detour signage will be posted.

A portion of East Loveland Avenue in Loveland will be closed beginning in late January 2024 for about six months, pending weather and field conditions. The road closure is part of a collaborative project between the City of Loveland, Clermont County, and MSD. MSD plans to replace and upsize about 1,300 feet of sewer along E. Loveland Avenue.

Lane restrictions will occur on West Galbraith Road in Springfield Township between Beta Avenue and Kingsmere Court starting on or about December 18, 2023. MSD will construct a new lateral sewer at 838 W. Galbraith Road as part of our Sewer Assesment Program to bring public sewer service to unsewered areas. The work is anticipated to take about a week, pending weather and field conditions.

MSD plans to upgrade sludge handling at the Polk Run Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Loveland starting in December 2023. Completion is anticipated by fall 2025, pending weather and field conditions. The project includes three new sludge storage tanks to increase storage capacity, a new sludge loading station, and new odor controls.

The Hamilton County Commissioners have approved MSD's 2024 budgets and a 3% sewer rate increase, which will take effect January 1, 2024. MSD's Operating Budget is about $237.9 million, and MSD's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget is $260.2 million for 42 projects.

MSD hosted a public forum on the water quality of the lower Little Miami River on November 8.
The forum covered the results of a recent biological and water quality study.
The results show that 90% of the lower Little Miami, a State and National Wild and Scenic River, is maintaining exceptional warmwater habitat for aquatic life use. The study also shows widespread impairment of E. coli throughout the mainstem and tributaries. Sources of E. coli include combined sewer overflows (CSOs), home sewage treatment systems, and animal waste.

The U.S. EPA and other regulators have approved a schedule and list of wet weather projects to be completed under Phase 2A of MSD's Wet Weather Improvement Plan (WWIP).

A root-cause analysis of the March 5, 2023, transformer failure at the Mill Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Lower Price Hill has determined the failure was caused by a manufacturing defect internal to the transformer.
The Mill Creek plant lost all electrical power following the catastrophic failure of a brand-new transformer installed at the Mill Creek electric substation as part of a $17.5 million upgrade project. Without power to the plant, untreated and partially treated wastewater was discharged into the Mill Creek and Ohio River. There were no impacts to local drinking water.

MSD plans to upgrade the solids thickening process at the Muddy Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Sayler Park starting in mid-August 2022. Completion is anticipated by June 2024, pending weather and field conditions.
The project will upgrade the existing sludge thickening process from gravity belt thickeners to rotary drum thickeners and mitigate sludge odors in the Secondary Thickening building, among other upgrades.
