OVERVIEW

MSD is designing and constructing a new 700 million gallon per day (MGD) influent pump station at the Mill Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Lower Price Hill/Queensgate. The new pump station will increase pumping capacity in anticipation of a new high-rate treatment facility to be built in the near future. It will replace an existing 430 MGD pump station. The new pump station will direct wastewater flows to either the treatment plant or to the future high-rate treatment facility that would operate during rain events to treat excess wastewater flows.

The project will also include a new bar screening facility, odor control, and a new disinfection facility, among other improvements.

The old Administration Building, old Administration Building Annex, and the existing north and south pump stations on the southeast side of the plant will be demolished to make room for the new facilities.

In addition, MSD will need to relocate the main plant entrance (off Gest Street), recongifure the plant entrance off Evans Street, and relocate the document storage room. A third floor, with geothermal heating/cooling, will be added to the Central Maintenance Facility (CMF) building at the Mill Creek plant to accommodate document storage.

PROJECT STATUS

  • MSD awarded this progressive design-build project to Ulliman Schutte Construction in June 2023.
  • Design kicked off in July 2023; 90% design is expected to be completed by fall 2025.
  • Construction of the third story of the CMF Building began in late January 2025 and is expected to run through December 2025. Drilling for the geothermal system to heat/cool the third floor is anticipated to start in March.

CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCES

This project is being conducted in sequences:

  • Early 2025 through December 2025: Construct third floor on CMF Building, drill geothermal wells in the Admin/CMF parking lot to heat/cool the building, and demo the old Administration Building and old Administration Building Annex.
  • Spring 2025 - Spring 2026: Reconfigure the Evans Street gate to handle truck traffic, construct a new main entrance gate adjacent to the Grit Building.
  • End of 2025 - 2032: Construct the new pump station and associated facilities.
