OVERVIEW

MSD is designing and constructing a new 700 million gallon per day (MGD) influent pump station at the Mill Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Lower Price Hill/Queensgate.

  • The new pump station will replace an existing 430 MGD pump station and nearly double pumping capacity.
  • The new pump station will direct wastewater flows to either the Mill Creek plant or to a future high-rate treatment facility at the Mill Creek plant that would only operate during rain events to treat excess wastewater flows.
  • The project also includes a new bar screening facility, odor control, and a new disinfection facility, among other improvements.
  • To make room for the new facilities, the old Administration Building and the Administration Building Annex on the southeast side of the plant will be demolished.
  • In addition, MSD will need to relocate the main plant entrance (off Gest Street), recongifure the plant entrance off Evans Street, and relocate the document storage room. A third floor, with geothermal heating/cooling, will be added to the Central Maintenance Facility (CMF) building at the Mill Creek plant to accommodate document storage.

PROJECT STATUS

  • Construction began in January 2025 and is expected to be completed in 2032. See the construction schedule below.
  • Ulliman Schutte Construction was awarded the progressive design-build contract in June 2023.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)

This project is being conducted in sequences:

  • End of 2025 - 2032: Construct the new pump station and associated facilities.
  • Spring 2025 - Spring 2026: Construct a new main entrance gate along Gest Street (adjacent to the Grit Building) and reconfigure the Evans Street gate to handle truck traffic.
  • Early 2025 through December 2025 (COMPLETED): Construct third floor on CMF Building, drill geothermal wells in the Admin/CMF parking lot to heat/cool the building, and demo the old Administration Building and old Administration Building Annex.
