OVERVIEW
MSD is making improvements to three combined sewer overflow (CSO) locations along the Ohio River:
- CSO 452/453 on Riverside Drive at Waterfront East Condos adjacent to the Le Blond Recreation Center in the East End.
- CSO 459/460 on Riverside Drive at Bayou Street/Callahan Drive in the East End.
- CSO 422 on River Road at Mt. Echo Drive in Sedamsville.
This project will improve maintenance access to the CSOs, replace or rehab CSO outfall pipes, and prevent the back flow of Ohio River water into the pipes, which contributes to sewer overflows, sewer backups, and the unnecessary treatment of river water at our treatment plants.
PROJECT STATUS
- Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-June 2026 and is expected to be completed by summer 2027.
- Work will start at the Waterfront East Condos area.
- The eastbound lanes of Riverside Drive will be closed between 2233 Riverside Drive and Collins Avenue from mid-June through October 2026. A temporary traffic signal will be used to control traffic.
- The eastbound left turn lane from Riverside Drive to Colllins Avenue will also be closed.
- Sunesis Construction Co. was awarded the construction contract in spring 2026.
