For the first time in 8 years, sewer rates will go up by 3%. This increase, which will go into effect on January 1, 2023, will cost the average single-family residential household an additional $18 a year or $1.50 a month.
On December 15, 2022, the Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) approved MSD's 2023 budgets and a 3% sewer rate increase, which will take effect January 1, 2023. MSD's Operating Budget is about $231 million, and MSD's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget is $140.5 million for 44 projects.

MSD plans to upgrade the solids thickening process at the Muddy Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Sayler Park starting in mid-August 2022. Completion is anticipated by June 2024, pending weather and field conditions.
The project will upgrade the existing sludge thickening process from gravity belt thickeners to rotary drum thickeners and mitigate sludge odors in the Secondary Thickening building, among other upgrades.
