SCOTT BESSLER, SUPERINTENDENT

 

Scott Bessler was named Superintendent in December 2024 over MSD's Compliance Services Division. He had previously served as Assistant Superintendent since late 2021. Scott joined MSD in 2021 as the Environmental section lead.

 

Prior to joining MSD, Scott worked for the U.S. EPA, enforcing the Toxic Substances Control Act and providing innovative remediation solutions for National Priority List Superfund sites. He has also worked as an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for Kinder Morgan and as Laboratory Manager at the University of South Florida. Scott holds degrees in Biological Sciences from Northern Kentucky University (BS) and The University of Alabama (MS).

 

In his current position, Scott provides strategic direction through two branch chiefs to ensure that:

  • MSD’s employees and operations adhere to health, safety, sustainability, and environmental (HSSE) laws and principles.
  • MSD applies pollution prevention and infrastructure protection principles to ensure that commercial and industrial sewer users are compliant with federal, state, and local laws.
  • MSD has sound analytical information to utilize for compliance, process control, cost recovery, and planning.
  • MSD is ready for the future including staying on the cutting edge of research, development and innovation around water quality, emerging contaminants and pathogens, and reuse of our waste streams.
  • MSD tells its water quality story.
