• Ludlow Run Source Control

MSD is evaluating ways to reduce sewer overflows from combined sewers in the Ludlow Run watershed.

Seven CSO outfalls in the watershed contribute to about 180 million gallons of overflows each year.

CSOs 151, 109, 110, 111, 112, and 162 overflow into the Ludlow Run stream. The stream is then conveyed into a combined sewer, which contributes to overflows at CSO 24 into the Mill Creek.

A solution was evaluated but not advanced during Phase 1 of MSD's wet weather program. MSD proposed a solution for Phase 2A, but this phase has not yet been negotiated with the U.S. EPA.

    Project Status

The Ludlow Run project is in the planning phase. MSD has contracted with an outside engineering firm, Arcadis, to assist with this work. The planning phase, which is used to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and impacts of a proposed project, precedes the design and construction phases.

The following are anticipated planning milestones:

    • Data Review and Collection - by end of October 2020.
    • Existing Collection System Model Review - by end of December 2020
    • Hydraulic Model Update and Calibration (contingent upon above reiew and may not be necessary) - by end of January 2022
    • Business Case Evaluation - potentially by end of August 2022.

This schedule is subject to change and will be updated periodically.

Deliverables from Arcadis can be found in the Downloads box.

    Watershed Overview

The Ludlow Run watershed is located west of I-75 and overlaps the Cincinnati neighborhoods of College Hill, Northside, Spring Grove Village, and Winton Hills. The watershed was named after the Ludlow Run stream, which conveys rainwater and natural drainage to the Mill Creek. Most of the CSOs in this watershed are located in Northside and College Hill. The CSO 24 outfall is located on the west bank of the Mill Creek near the intersection of Spring Grove Avenue and Dooley Bypass in Northside.
