• Greater Cincinnati East Side Sewer Backup Mitigation Study

The current SBU program installs prevention systems for homes with repeated SBUs. However, the program is not cost-effective given the volume of compplaints and issues on the east side of Greater Cincinnati. In addition the program does not address related problems such as sewer capacity or combined sewer overflows (CSOs).

    Project Status

On December 17, 2020, the Hamilton County Commissioners approved $1.0 million in planning funding for MSD’s Greater Cincinnati East Side Sewer Backup Mitigation Study. The planning phase, which is used to evaluate alternatives to identify cost-effective, watershed-based solutions for chronic sewer backups (SBUs) in neighborhoods and municipalities located on the east side of Greater Cincinnati, precedes the design and construction phases.

The study area includes, but is not limited to the Clough, Duck Creek, Polk Run, and Sycamore basins. This study will obtain and analyze available data to identify potential alternatives to::

    • Improve sewer capacity
    • Decrease CSO volumes
    • Achieve regulatory compliance

This schedule is subject to change and will be updated periodically.
